Ford Mondeo - 2.2 TDCi (114 kW/153 bhp)
Date of manufacture: september 2004 - june 2007
The towing performances of this Ford with your Caravelair are perfect (performance index = 100 km/h or 62 mph).
You may expect excellent performances from this outfit. On flat roads you can come along adequately, in which case top gear is applicable under normal circumstances.
On motorway inclines you will be able not only to come along, but be the first at the top. On steep roads you have more than sufficient power to keep going. On hill starts there will be more than enough power to get going, provided the wheels have traction.

= 22%Brilliant engine. very flexible. Solo it holds road well and pulls from as low as 1500 revs. rarely need to exceed 2500 revs, which ain 6th. is over 60mph. tows effortlessly Seems stable probably due to the firm suspension, and on motorway hills very rarely needs below 5th gear. Too early to arrive at fuel consumption towing but solo is around 40 mpg around home and 50 on long motorway trips.

= 22%Cracking engine power but can struggle on steep hill pull aways until you get going then its fantastic. we have an Abbey Impression 520 which is not listed on here with the alco stabilizer. I've found to get the best balance is to put anything heavy over the caravan axle rather than the car boot, this stopped the car bounch dramatically due to hard suspension. As for fuel economy solo average about 42mpg towing about 27mpg.

= 21%Struggled towing for years with a 2002 1.8i16v Vauxhall Vectra, but recently bought a 2005 2.2 Tdci Mondeo Ghia X. This car is just truly perfect for towing, there is bags of tourque and it was a dream to tow with. On motorways put it into 6th and set the cruise control and away you go, I only ever need to use 5th on steep inclines. I get around 42mpg without the caravan and around 27mpg towing with full load including 2 bikes and a kayak on the roof bars. Neither power nor fuel economy is affected by using the air conditioning whilst towing. I would recommend this car to anyone who wishes to tow a caravan, brilliant!
